Having peace within you means calmness, no worries or fears and on top of it no stress. The happiness and freedom that comes along with peace is something that we all long for, but unfortunately many of us don’t know what it takes to attain that peace.
Marc Chernoff a personal development writer talks about things that we need to get rid off in our lives to attain peace.
1. False hope of a life with no pain.
Pain is for the living and we should all learn how to live with it not how to escape it. Nothing in this life is handed over freely; we must fight for what we want. That job won’t come to you without you showing and applying some effort.
The author advice that, “Pain is actually a good thing. It means you’re breathing, and trying, and interacting with the endless possibilities in this world.”
2. Old regrets and excuses
How many times have you given an excuse for not doing something you know you ought to do just because you not sure of the outcome.
You for example see a job advert and you know very well you qualify but just because you applied for some other job in the past and did not get it you go ahead and pass.
Marc states that, “Be done with these old regrets; they’re just an excuse for people who have failed, and failing only happens if you learn nothing and give up .”
3. The burning desire to have all the answers
Have an open mind and be ready for anything that comes along other than wanting to know what will happen in your life. In his article the author says, “Accept the feeling of not knowing exactly where you are going, and train yourself to love and appreciate this sensation of freedom.”
You can never have all the answers and thinking about it all the time takes away the peace you are supposed to be enjoying in your life.
4. Measuring your success by material wealth.
“Truthfully, success, happiness, and peace of mind have little to do with stuff,” Marc declares
How many times have you heard people say that so and so is very successful because of the fleets of matatus he has on the road or the big shamba he has. Yes, he might be doing well but there is more to success than material things.
Paying up for your evening classes, being able to finally pay your own rent in these hard economic times are some sort of success too.
5. Attachment to insensitive people.
Am sure you know one or two people whom to you it seems like they are paid to make your life miserable. It could be friends and you feel like you do not have the power to walk away from them, thus you keep them around and keep hating them and yourself for not walking away, and in return you have no peace within you.
The author notes that, “Any bit of time you spend on them will be wasted, and any bit of hate in your heart will only hurt you.”
Peace… the harmony and not to mention the health benefits it comes along with, who would mind to have some? Try these five things and you will truly have bliss.
